Ankle Boots

The Ankle Boot is fast becoming this year’s top shoe and it’s all down to the versitility of the great little boot. They were a huge hit earlier this year when Spring was forcing it’s way into Summer and consequently we saw a variation of the boot in the form of high top, open toe material wedges.

Winter is approaching fast and it’s time to stat looking for ‘sensible’ shoes that can withstand the British weather while oozing style and quality, fortunately there are so many styles available that finding one to suit you shouldn’t be hard.

The Ugg boot (at whatever length) will always be a popular choice of Winter footwear, however a strong contender this year is the brogue boot – classy, retro and easy to match with clothing. Brogue boots can be found is a multitude of colours, however for ultimate versatility we recommend black or dark brown. If looked after properly these boots will last you all through the snowy season and be a great combo with mini skirts in the spring.

Winter footwear is as much about trimmings as the shoe itself, so look out for ankle boots with a fur or sheep skin lining and trimming round the top. Also look out for buckles, studs and zips – think slightly gothic and biker chic. Any embellished footwear should ideally be match with plain clothing on your bottom half so you don’t clash patterns or textures.

5 of the best leopard print shoes available online

Prints have been hugely popular in the world of fashion throughout 2011, but the leopard animal print has always been a timeless classic, when worn in the right way. Leopard print has remained fashionable even when other prints have gone out of style, so if you’re looking for something to last despite fluctuations in trends, leopard print might be for you. Here are 5 of the best leopard print shoes that you can buy online.

High heels are big and bad this season, and we mean high heels. From Dune’s Head Over Heels range come the Leopard Print Court Shoes, flattering svelte heels with that daring leopard print, accented with a cute bow just before the open toe. You can find them for just £79.00 online at Littlewoods.

The above utilise a quite bright leopard print, but you can find a darker variety on the Dadoo Leopard Print Platforms from Love Label. These heels are more sophisticated, with a ruffled black fringe running down the centre of the foot. You can have them for £38 from online retailer Very.

The heels above are all well and good, but the wedge heel has truly been the runaway hit of the summer so let’s include a leopard print wedge. The ASOS Hide Away Two Part Animal Print Wedge Sandal has a buckle around the ankle and a peep toe front, available from their website for £60.

Similarly channelling the summer trends of 2011, the Ravel Graphic Slingback Sandal utilises a woven leather look around the toe complemented by the pony skin panel in leopard print. Slingbacks are well known to be comfortable, and these sandals are available for £45 from Simply Be, in sizes 3 to 8.

Finally, our first and only entry from a retailer exclusive to shoes, the Desert Animal Print Boots from Clarks Originals. Unlike the glamorous heels above, these boots are comfy and casual and will be great for the coming winter. They are currently on sale with 40% off at Schuh, for the discounted price of £44.99.

Heels and dresses

Heels and dresses are the perfect combination. The dress accentuates your curves and flaunts your femininity and the heels highlight those luscious legs. However, believe it or not, there are so many ways a dress and heels can go wrong. How many girls have chosen a gorgeous pair of shows where the heels resemble sky scrapers? These shoes are the ‘dream heels’ and you can’t wait to wear them on your ‘big night out’ at the weekend. But by the end of the night you have a twisted ankle and are struggling along the street with bare feet and those ‘not so dreamy’ heels in your hand. The Solution: Don’t wear heels that hurt after 5 minutes because I imagine you’ll want to be gracing the dancefloor till the early hours.

It took me many a sore ankle and glass stuck in my feet to make me realise that stiletto’s weren’t for me. So instead I’ve now opted for heels that are more sturdy and only an inch tall, just so that I can dance the night away and still retain my dignity by keeping my shoes on for the walk home. Another way to still show off your pins in a less painful way are wedges. These are being by sported by celebrities left, right and centre and if of a sensible height can be much more comfortable.

Like any other girl I love to throw on a dress for a night out. It makes you feel all girly after the trousers you’ve been wearing through the day. However, again these garments can cause embarrassment. Too many times I’ve bought a stunning dress, then got home and realised after bending over that my rear is fully exposed. Or a white dress and then realised my underwear is highly visible. So next time, you buy a dress, try it on in the shop first and do the ‘bend and snap’ test!

Work the Gladiator Trend

Gladiator trends are a huge summer trend and since their arrival on to the scene a few years ago it has been hard to not wear a pair when the sun comes out. There are plenty of ways to wear them and these are our favourites.

Firstly, the maxi dress is a perfect companion for your gladiator sandals. Go for glitzy sandals that zip up at the back or buckle around the ankle and pair with a block colour dress so as not to draw attention away from your glamorously attired feet.

Gladiator sandals are also good when worn with leggings, short skirts, high waisted shorts or tunics. When wearing shorter length clothes we think it is best to go all out with the gladiator trend and opt for a pair that goes up to your calf or your knee if you are feeling brave.

Knee length gladiator sandals and vintage dresses are a perfect bohemian summer look. Wear with a floral headband and a crochet waistcoat and accessorise to the max to really hit all the key trends this summer. This is also a winning festival look so work it relentlessly to make it your own.

Tunic dresses tend to look very relaxed and laid back and are perfect for holidaying in hot weather as they hang loose on the body. Keep things simple and really dress this look up with extravagant gladiators, choose heels or shiny materials that are patent or metallic to draw attention to your feet. Or simply keep things ankle height if you want to choose a more detailed or patterned tunic. If you want to toughen up a particularly feminine dress opt for buckles and studs for a bit of macho factor.

Give your gladiators a rest every now and then to avoid strange (but pretty) stripey tan lines!

Wedges – The comfortable heel is back!

This summer marks the return of one of the most popular seasonal shoes around – the wedge heel. Wedges are great, versatile heels that can be worn with almost anything, casual or formal, and most importantly they are comfortable. The large heel, even when very high, provides much more support for your feet that a tiny kitten or stiletto heel. This means that you can gain a bit of height without having to worry about lasting the day or the night. Wedges can be worn for hours without too much discomfort, and aside from that they look fantastic and are a top summer fashion favourite.

So what can you wear with a good pair of wedges? Often, wedges come in brown and tan shades to match their summery feel. Open toed and closed are both available, and you can choose from a wide range of different colours and styles. Subtly coloured wedges will go perfectly with any kind of boho chic look, utilising the same light tones. Or how about that other summer favourite, the maxi dress? The long length of the maxi dress makes it perfect for combining with heels, and a pair of brightly coloured wedges will give you both height and style.

As with clothing in general, finding particularly large sizes of shoes can be difficult, especially in high street stores. Even a lot of popular online retailers fail to offer the largest sizes. Wide fitting and plus size shoes for ladies with larger feet are quite uncommon, but luckily online department store www.onestopplus.co.uk/ has a wide range of larger shoes, including summery wedges and sandals to help with your holiday wardrobe. The wedge heel is definitely back for summer 2011, marking another successive summer when these shoes have been seen everywhere, on catwalks, celebrities and general public alike.
